Open Access Policy

8 August 2024
By adhering to this Open Access policy, Vance Press ensures that the research we publish is available to everyone, fostering a more inclusive and connected global academic community.
This page outlines general policy. For detailed policies and procedures, please refer to the specific journal's open access policy page.

At Vance Press, we are committed to the principles of Open Access (OA), ensuring that all research published in our journals is freely available to anyone, anywhere in the world. Our Open Access policy is designed to support the global dissemination of knowledge and to foster an inclusive academic environment where research is accessible to all.

1. Free and Unrestricted Access

All content published by Vance Press is freely accessible online immediately upon publication. There are no subscription fees, paywalls, or registration barriers. This ensures that readers from around the world, regardless of their financial or institutional resources, can access the latest research without restriction.

2. Creative Commons Licensing

All articles published in Vance Press journals are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY). This license allows others to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the work, even commercially, as long as they credit the original author(s) for the original creation. The use of the CC BY license maximizes the dissemination and impact of the research by allowing for greater reuse and collaboration.

3. Article Processing Charges (APC)

To sustain the Open Access model, Vance Press finances publication through Article Processing Charges (APCs). These charges are typically covered by the authors' institutions, research grants, or funding bodies. The APC covers the costs associated with the editorial process, peer review, typesetting, online hosting, and long-term archiving. We strive to keep our APCs transparent and competitive, ensuring that they do not become a barrier to publication.

4. No Embargoes

There are no embargo periods for any content published in our journals. All articles are made available immediately and permanently upon publication, ensuring that the research reaches the widest possible audience without delay.

5. Long-Term Preservation

Vance Press is committed to the long-term preservation of scholarly content. We partner with leading digital archiving services to ensure that all published articles are securely stored and preserved for future access, even in the unlikely event that the journal ceases publication.

6. Author Rights and Permissions

Authors retain the copyright to their work and grant Vance Press the right to publish the content under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License. This ensures that authors maintain control over their intellectual property while benefiting from the wide dissemination and impact of Open Access publication.

7. Compliance with Funders' Policies

Vance Press adheres to the Open Access policies of major research funders and institutions worldwide. Our journals comply with the requirements of funding bodies that mandate the deposition of research outputs in publicly accessible repositories.

8. Ethical Publishing

We uphold the highest standards of ethical publishing, ensuring transparency, integrity, and accountability in all aspects of our operations. Our Open Access policy is aligned with our broader commitment to ethical publishing practices and the advancement of scientific knowledge.

9. Global Reach and Impact

Our Open Access policy enhances the visibility and impact of published research, allowing it to reach a global audience. By removing barriers to access, we support the wide dissemination of scientific knowledge, fostering collaboration and innovation across disciplines.
